Now over Christmas it is hot and quiet in Namibia. Those who have the opportunity spend this time on the cool Atlantic or travel to relatives' farms where the family meets for Christmas. Time to switch off, without internet, often without running water, but with the family - time to talk, to spend time together. Those who have to stay behind in Okombahe will continue to receive an extra meal at Albertina's soup kitchen.
In mid-January, working life begins again - also in Okombahe. Students and teachers return to school and the new school year begins again. 44 soup kitchen children are now old enough (from grade 8) to go to secondary schools in the area and most of them have to pay to stay in the student dormitory. At the state schools, actual lessons are free up to grade 10, but the student dormitories and school uniforms have to be financed. Our association has decided to finance the soup kitchen children until they have finished their school education. A year in the student dormitory, with school uniforms and a school bag, costs around 100 euros per young person. These 44 former soup kitchen children can be happy: their next school year has been pre-financed by the Namibia Support Association.
Thank you for your donations and for your purchases and your food and drink at our Namibia stands last year, and now again at the Öhringen Christmas market.
